When China established the one-child policy to control the growth of its population, it inadvertently created a new problem: a flood of abandoned infants. Chinese authorities made heroic efforts to deal with this new dilemma, and greatly expanded facilities to care for these unfortunate children.
But such care cannot last forever. At some point, orphans who are not adopted must leave the institutional environment.
What happens to them? Are they prepared for independent living?
Regardless of the hand fate has dealt them, these children deserve a chance. Golden Moon Foundation exists to help them get it. Our mission is to provide older children who reside in China’s orphanages with the knowledge, skills and emotional support necessary to achieve their potential, lead full, happy, meaningful lives, and integrate successfully into their communities.
Our Approach
Our work is founded upon programs that have been successfully implemented in the United States for children transitioning out of the foster care system.
